Public holidays in Spain 2026

Every nationwide public holiday in Spain in 2026 — 10 dates, each with its weekday.

Last reviewed 7 July 2026

Spain has 10 nationwide public holidays in 2026. That figure covers the whole country only: each autonomous community, province and city adds its own days on top, so most residents actually get more than 10 - a worker in Madrid or Barcelona should check local and regional calendars for the full picture, not just the national one.

The shape of the year

The year opens with New Year’s Day on Thursday 1 January and closes with Christmas Day on Friday 25 December, so the calendar both starts and finishes on a holiday. Between them, the gaps are uneven. The longest stretch without a single nationwide holiday runs 106 days, from Labour Day on 1 May to Assumption on 15 August - a long mid-year run with no national day off, though summer regional and local holidays often fill some of that gap.

Weekday luck in 2026

How a holiday lands on the calendar decides whether it actually extends anyone’s weekend. In 2026, only 1 of Spain’s nationwide holidays falls on a Monday, the day that would naturally give a long weekend. Three fall on Fridays, which has the same effect. The rest of the calendar is less kind: three holidays land on a weekend and are effectively absorbed into days off most people already have - Assumption on Saturday 15 August, All Saints’ Day on Sunday 1 November, and Constitution Day on Sunday 6 December. A holiday that falls on a weekend is often a lost day off unless a government or regional authority chooses to move it, and whether that happens varies from place to place - so it’s worth checking the rule for a specific region rather than assuming one applies.

Dates below are sourced from the Nager.Date open public holiday dataset as of this page’s review. Governments can and do adjust holiday dates after publication, so treat the table as a reliable starting point rather than a permanent record.
